Is commenting on a post without reading the other already posted comments, or commenting without even reading the post ethical? Are those connected with you on Facebook really your “friends”? Can you ever be-friend “real” people with a click? Can you un-friend a “real friend” in “real life” with a click? Do you think you are “honest” with your opinion when you press the like button on a post without reading, when you like a comment by just looking at the name and by not reading the comment, when you like a link to an external article without reading?

Are not we spending our precious time, our days and our nights on frivolous interactions like these? Isn’t this behavior making us shallow, superficial, gullible? Are not we being easily dissuaded, comfortable in only the company of like-minded, avoiding those who hold an opposing point of view engagement? Is it worthwhile to like posts of people who can abuse more, throw greater invective, or lampoon others, criticize others, disrespect others, clown others without any evidence? Is this worthy of an educated and a discerning mind? Is the generation growing up with Facebook only capable of electing people like Trump?
In one sense, we are all readers. Readers of a book, Facebook! But, is this reading a real reading? Is sharing of a few sentences, jokes, and senseless comments constitute reading? Facebook is important but only if you use it for increasing your depth and the depth of others. It is important for consciously developing ideas by referring to more in-depth articles. The interaction is worthwhile only if you have the ability to sustain in-depth discussions on a topic without flying off at a tangent. This requires focus, concentration and deep reflection.
Without in-depth analysis and deep reading these social media interactions would make you a fodder of those who are out there to prowl and exploit. At minimum they are out there to make money from you, without giving you any thing in exchange for you giving them the liberty to analyze and pick on your mind and your behavior which is what google and Facebook is doing to become the richest companies of the world.
